Noticing the Signs and Symptoms of Cerebral Palsy
Symptoms of cerebral palsy are different in different children. They can range from small problems, such as having difficulty with fine motor tasks, to larger ones: being unable to walk or maintain balance. Some children suffer from associated medical impairments, including seizures and developmental disabilities.
The signs and symptoms of cerebral palsy can be mild. They can also be quite severe. Below is a list of many of the different symptoms of CP. A child with cerebral palsy may exhibit some of these signs:
- Abnormal muscle tone
- Floppy or stiff movements
- Loss of coordination and balance
- Skeletal deformities
- Poor head control
- Difficulty feeding, swallowing or suckling
- Difficulty with speech, hearing or vision
- Impaired sense of touch/decreased sensitivity to pain
- Breathing difficulties
- Inability to control bladder and bowels
- Breathing difficulties
